Bagel Toaster
Bagel toaster must have wide slice slots
How do you like your bagel? Hot and crunchy? Soft and soggy? Cold and moist? Nine out of ten bagel lovers would like it hot and crunchy. But this can only happen on the day bagel is made. What about the remaining days when bagels are fished out of refrigerators? That's when you need your bagel toaster.
This toaster has much wider slots than the normal toaster and can toast the cold and soggy bagel into a crunchy, munchy and yummy treat. Some toaster makers like Hamilton have launched toasters with super wide slots to accommodate large-sized bagels too. Cuisinart has a bagel toaster that can hold two bagels, one in each slot without slicing them.
You also have the option of heating bagels in the oven. But there is always the danger of making them hard. The browning also does not happen the way it does in the case of a toaster. The microwave ovens must certainly be avoided because they make the interiors of the bagels soft and mushy.
The best way to 'revive" a refrigerated bagel is to slice the bagel in half and moisten it slightly with cold water. The bagel slice should then be kept in the toaster with the cut surface facing inwards, and toasted. The slicing can be avoided if you are using a Cuisinart bagel toaster or any other wide slot toaster that can accommodate the full bagel.
The heat surround system of the toaster moves the bagels into the right place to ensure proper browning. There may be times when the bagels may not be toasted properly in the first cycle. In this case the heating process should be repeated.
So, next time you buy a toaster make sure that it can toast the bagel too.
