Preventing mould in your bathroom

Preventing mould in your bathroom shouldn't be as easy as 1,2,3... Although you might be cleaning your bathroom regularly, mould will always occur where there is high humidity around your home.

Take care of mould in a few easy steps:

1. Extract moist air by fitting an extractor fan, this will ensure that the surfaces stay dry, so that the mould cannot form that easily.

2. Use a dehumidifier,  this will condense moisture out of the air in your home and store it as water in a reservoir, which must be emptied regularly. Rent a dehumidifier for a few weeks to find out if this will solve the problem.

3. Remove any carpets in your bathroom, by stepping onto the carpet with wet feet in increases the humidity in the bathroom. Try to buy bathroom floor coverings that do not absorb as much water.

4. Also prevent mould in your bathroom by removing all pot plants. They need to be waters regularly and that keeps the soil moist. This is an ideal breeding ground for mould producing fungi, so keep them on the veranda.

5. Check for leaks regularly as they can lead to massive damage if left unchecked. Ensure all pipe-work is bone dry (especially around connections). Look closely around the shower tray and bathtub to make sure that all of the seals are still intact. Mould growing in the silicone seal itself usually (although not a usual occurrence), indicates that moisture has got behind the seal.

6. Installing surfaces that do not harbor mould will also cut down on mould forming. Ceramic tiles is a common place in most bathrooms but are cold to the touch, attracting condensation. Although the tiles are waterproof the grout used between the joints can attract moisture and lead to mould growth. Drywall ceilings and walls can suck in moisture if they come into contact with water - this will enable mould to grow even if the surface looks dry.

TODAY'S NEWS:

The Miami Herald says a first grader was suspended after he allegedly robbed a 6 year old classmate at knife point last week in the boys bathroom of a Pines Lakes, Fla., elementary school. The alleged victim, who lost 1, wasnt injured, according to the paper. Local police are on the case. Were still investigating to make a final determination on what exactly happened, Pembroke Pines

It is important for an individual to carefully select a bathroom mirror design that will compliment the current theme of their home, or making sure that it will fit perfectly with whatever design you may have after giving it a little improvement.

POTTSTOWN Pottstown Middle School was evacuated Tuesday morning after a girls bathroom filled with toxic smoke when a fire that appeared to be intentionally set smoldered in a plastic toilet paper dispenser, officials said.

Ever heard of an alternative called bathroom cladding? This is a form of waterproof wall paneling that is warm to the touch - therefore condensation will not form on it. Bathroom cladding uses no grout, thus each panel slots into the next using a tongue and groove system - so moisture cannot form!

Hopefully these steps will lead to a mould free bathroom.
