Waffle Iron

Bake light, creamy waffles with a waffle iron

Waffles are the popular light, breakfast food usually served with fresh fruits, cream or maple syrup. They are made with the help of a waffle iron, which consists of two hot plates placed close to each other. The bottom plate is first ladled with waffle flour and egg batter, and then the top plate is placed on top of it. The baking process begins once this happens, and the result is a light, creamy, delicious waffle!

Waffle irons are both electric-powered as well as flame heated. The electric ones have an in-built heating system, while the non-electric ones have attached tongs that are used to hold the waffle iron over an open flame.

Waffle irons come in a variety of sizes and the indentations on the insides of the plates have various shapes. As a result, your waffle gets indented with such shapes as squares, circles, triangles and even innovative heart-shaped waffles! Earlier, waffles with shapes of family crests were highly popular.

Waffles have been around for a long time. In the good old days, waffles were merely pieces of toasted cakes made by placing a batter of barley and water into a crude iron griddle. As technology improved, special devices were constructed to make thicker, lighter and better-cooked waffles.

The most popular waffle today is the Belgian Waffle, which was first 'invented' in the year 1965. This delicious item is prepared using a special batter on a deeper iron plate. It is usually served with additions such as chocolate chips, fruits, whipped cream, maple and blueberry syrups.

Buying a waffle-making device is definitely a great investment because waffles are the ideal breakfast dish. They are a great addition to any kitchen because a freshly baked waffle is far superior to frozen waffles. Specialized waffle irons can also be used as sandwich grillers or to make paninis — flat-pressed sandwiches with filling.
